Let’s Dive In: 2023 Fashion Trends

Keeping up with fashion trends these days is a full-time job.  

2023 was a year for experimenting with new styles and bringing back old ones. Constantly refreshing my Pinterest feed to see what I had to purchase next was not ideal for my bank account. Let’s take a look back at some of the biggest fashion trends of 2023.

Hair Ribbon

Starting off strong, we have a trend that is still somewhat seeping into the new year. The girlies heard it was dropping below 60 degrees, and the ribbons came out to play. Since the flourishing of the ribbon-aissance, the coquette aesthetic has sprung all over TikTok. Users put ribbons on EVERYTHING to highlight femininity and girlhood. I would not be surprised to see the hair ribbons come back during the spring. For some, it’s an aesthetic. For others, it’s a lifestyle. 

Red (Taylor’s Version)

Now this trend I am fully guilty of (me writing this as I look across the room to my red Adidas Gazelles I purchased over break). Red made a comeback like never before, and it spread throughout every season. I don’t know if it’s because I studied abroad in London this past summer, but I saw red everywhere I turned. Whether it was a red bag, red lip, red leather jacket or Rihanna’s Super Bowl outfit, I stayed sat.

Denim Maxi Skirts

You see, this was not in my 2023 BINGO card. However, seeing celebrities pair the bottoms with a plain white tee changed my mind about the whole idea. They truly are a piece of fashion you want as a part of your capsule wardrobe to be dressed up or dressed down. I don’t see denim going out of style anytime soon. 

All Things Sheer 

Being able to wear a long sleeve in early September without getting too hot? Say less. Sheer took the stage this past year, and I am prepared for it to stay. Sheer pieces add much-needed texture to flat outfits and serve as a layering piece. In 2023, “going out tops” saw an increase in sheer fabrics, making for fun nights out on the town. 

Off The Shoulder

I thought we left off-the-shoulder off-the-shelf, but she made a huge comeback. From dancing in the club to eating Thanksgiving dinner, there were so many types of off-the-shoulder tops in 2023. These tops hug all the right places and bring elegance to any outfit. The exposing of the neckline allows for your best accessorizing. The many variations with an off-the-shoulder piece add up to a charming look.
