The man responsible for the revitalization of Louis Vuitton’s menswear announced his decision to leave the luxury couture house. Kim Jones, who has been Louis Vuitton’s mens’ style director for the past seven years, leaves behind a legacy of innovation, as he brought a youthful aesthetic to the brand with his decision to incorporate more street style into his collections. Gone were the monogrammed belts and wallets, and in came Jones’ graphic tees, tracksuits and sneakers. Jones’ ability to capitalize on the street style trend is encapsulated by his well-received collaboration with Supreme, a brand GQ referred to as “the Louis Vuitton of streetwear.” Jones’ ability to connect with younger generations has brought the brand to new heights, as connecting with millennials has brought potential new life-long clients, thus ensuring an amplified presence on social media.
Jones’ last show during Paris Fashion Week, was a star-studded affair – a visual representation of his influence in high fashion. David Beckham and his family were in attendance, as well as fellow fashion director, Olivier Rousteing of Balmain, and the world’s most famous models, Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell. The collection itself consisted of a muted grey palette, including silvers, creams and earthy browns. Strong colors with a Viagra effect. The collection focused on tailored coats and cashmere turtlenecks and jackets. Most models donned hiking boots and sneakers – typical of Jones’ historic focus on streetwear.

While Jones has not yet announced where he will reside next, all signs point to either Versace or Burberry, as both of their respective creative directors, Donatella Versace and Christopher Bailey, have also recently announced their plans to step down. Regardless of where Jones moves to next, he will no doubt continue to alter how the world thinks of high fashion.
